Snorkeling in Akumal Bay
Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon

Akumal is a great place to snorkel and offers 3 fabulous spots; Akumal Main Bay, Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon. In Akumal Main Bay you can snorkel anywhere along the coast but go out straight from where the boats are docked then to the right where the sea grass is and that is where you are most likely to see a sea turtle. Half Moon Bay is another wonderful snorkel spot in Akumal. The easiest way to access the bay is from is "La Buena Vida" Restaurant. Very shallow water and big variety of corals and fishes. At the very end of the Bay you will get to the Yalku Lagoon, a very famous spot for snorkeling as well. The Entrance fee is US 5.00 p/p. You can discover Akumal snorkeling by yourself or with a guided tour provided form any of the 2 dive shops, Akumal Dive Shop or Akumal Dive Center located on Akumal Main Bay. NOTE: please help to protect our reefs! Do not touch corals, the sea turtles or any other sea life! Thank you!

Fishing Trips

If you are interested in a fishing trip, Akumal is the perfect place for it! You can make reservations with Akumal Dive Center or Akumal Dive Shop. The deep sea fishing trip takes 3 hours and includes all equipment and refreshments. The best fishing month are from April through July, guaranteeing great catches such as Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado, Mahi Mahi, Barracuda, Yellow Fin Tuna and many others. The Fisherman will clean your catch and any of the local restaurants (La Cueva del Pescador is a great choice!) will be happy to prepare a delicious meal for you. The cost is aprox. US 150 for the trip (max. 4 people) and US $ 50 per extra hour.

Catamaran Kantaris Tours

Experience this incredible adventure with the “Kantaris”, 36´Catamaran with Captain Angel and his crew on a Robinson Crusoe Tour. While sailing we drop two fishing lines to try our luck along the coast to the beach of Xcacel or Chemuyil (depending on the weather conditions). You can swim, snorkel, sunbath or beach comb while the crew prepares a feast of fresh fish ceviche, guacamole, salsa mexicana, plus fruits, beers, sodas, purified water and some tequila! One of the best family and group activities in the Mayan Riviera with Akumal Dive Shop. Tour starts on 9:30am and ends on 2:30pm. Cost US $85 p/p.

Another great Catamaran Adventure is the Sunset Cruise Tour. Relax, enjoy the breeze and get swept away by a breath talking orange-red sky on the Sunset Cruise Tour. This evening sail takes you along the beautiful coast of the Mexican Caribbean, with the best view of the tropical sun setting over the lush jungle along the coastline. Hours: 5pm-7pm, cost US $ 40 p/p.

SCUBA Diving and Cenote Cavern Diving

Come and explore the beautiful dive sites on the Mayan Reef. Experience our beautiful Caribbean reefs on numerous of different dive sites which are only 5-10 minutes by boat. Dive through big coral canyons which are decorated with a lot of different species of corals and tropical fish. Akumal offers 2 great dive shops who an excellent and professional service fully equipped and prepared for any desire you have related to DIVING! They offer any kind of Ocean Boat Dives, shallow dives, deep diving, night diving etc . They also offer Scuba Diving Instruction such as Recreational Diving Instruction and Technical Diving Instruction.

The Yucatan Peninsula is also very famous for its spectacular and amazing Cavern and Cave Diving. In the Jungles nearby the ancient town of Tulum lie the 2 longest underwater cave systems known on earth. Creatures found nowhere else on the planet what have been discovered in these caves. Akumal is located in the middle of one of the finest regions for cave and cavern diving, therefore the best place to go for a Cenote Cavern dive. ATV Jungle Tour
(Jungle Jim’s ATVs)

The tour departs from Akumal and heads directly into the tropical jungle over dirt roads and through rustic mayan paths to our private nature reserve. After riding for about 45 minutes, we arrive at our nature reserve where we will visit pristine caverns. Then our Tour follows to a fresh-water sinkhole in the middle of the jungle called "cenotes" where you will have an opportunity to cool-off. Cenote Santa Cruz Bike Tour

After a 20 minute bike ride departing from Akumal, you’ll arrive to the Santa Cruz Ranch. Once there you will be guided through an underground cavern. This partially flooded passage is decorated with myriads of speleothems (stalactites & stalagmites).This underground river leads to a magnificent Cenote (sinkhole) where you can swing, swim and play.
